Brunswick Stew

Park and Alethea invited us down to Park's parent's house for a fall celebration and yummy brunswick stew. Thirty pounds of brunswick stew to be exact. I have never seen a cauldron that large. We got to see some old friends while we were there: Park & Alethea, Damien & Melanie, Wombat, and Craig.
Thanks guys for the invite! We had a blast and enjoyed catching up!

UVA vs. UNC - Thursday, October 19, 2006

Here are some tailgating pictures from the UVA v. UNC football game. We had a some awesome additions (my cousins - Jeannie, Lee, Jessie & Allie and Corey's college buddies - Park & Wombat) to our normal tailgating crew (Corey, Jackie, Bob and myself). We had a great time catching up and eating a yummy assortment of food!

Bright Yellow Poles

Warning! Beware of bright yellow poles while exiting parking garages...those damn things jump out and hit the side of your vehicle if your not watching carefully....unfortunately I was the pole's latest victim!

So here's how it happened - I was pulling out of the underground parking garage at work this past Monday morning and the gate was malfunctioning and not opening properly. So the gate keeper was trying to fix the gate so I could exit. He was asking me to swip my parking pass and then pull up...only to have the gate not open so I would have to back up and try my pass again. I guess at some point of me inching forward and backing up I got a little too close to the wall of the garage. When the gate finally opened I pulled out and tried to make a sharp right turn only to hit the bright yellow pole outside the gate. Thank God the bright yellow pole had about six inches of foam covering it...if only it had had twelve maybe I would not have dents in my car. Boo! To make matters worse, when I got out of my car to check the damage the security guards were laughing at me and joking that they would hate to have to go home and explain this incident to their spouse. So I started crying right there in front of everyone over these stupid dents. Completely embarassed, I got back in my car and called Corey. I told him I had been in an accident and kind of messed up the car...of course me hitting a pole pulling out of a parking garage probably doesn't constitute as an accident, but oh well it soundedlike a good way to explain it to him. As soon as Corey made sure I was okay and made me tell him the ENTIRE story he started hysterically laughing at me. He was very understanding and told me oh well we will just have to turn it into the insurance...no big deal. So I cried at work in front of the security guards over these stupid dents...and my husband laughed...I felt like an idiot. I quickly started laughing and making fun of myself. The damage is very minor and only cosmetic. Just the way I wanted to start my week!

Tawnya's Baby Shower

Yesterday at work the Pratt team threw Tawnya our Contracts Specialist / Problem Solver / Life Saver (as you can see she is very important around the office) a surprise Baby Shower.
She had a feeling we were up to something, but had no clue that it was going to happen yesterday. So we successfully surprised her! Yea!

Tawnya is due on 21 November with a little boy. So of course, the theme was "It's A Boy!" and blue. The food was very tasty! We had yummy cake with chocolate mousse in the center, lemon pie, chocolate chip cookies, a variety of pound cakes and yummy punches (raspberry & strawberry).
The guest list consisted of mostly males...so we had to make the shower interesting for them. Most males are not easily entertained like us women who love to ough and augh over baby gifts. So we played three baby shower games catering to the men. The men took the games very seriously and were very competitive...they were out to win! I have definitely decided that a Jack and Jill Shower is the way to go...so many dynamics and personalities...what a blast!

Game #1) Baby Bottle Chugging Contest - the object was to see who could drink the most milk out of the bottle in three minutes. The only rule was they had to drink through the nipple. It was hilarious! The person who WON bit a hole in the nipple so the milk would come out faster. She left everyone in the dust and her tactic was well within the rules. The participants requested that next time bibs be provided since milk driblets got all over their neatly pressed button-up business shirts.
Game #2) "Name that Baby Food" - The baby food selections were Sweet Peas, Chicken Noodle dinner, Peaches, Green Beans and Pears. None of the participants have had kids yet, so they had no idea what baby food tasted like or that it was so bland. The faces were comical.
Game #3) "Brown Noser / Poop Inspector"- the object of the game is to determine what candy bar is in the diaper. The candy bars look realistically similar to baby poop. This game was hysterical! The participants were all male and Managers or Senior Managers for our group. The candy bars used were Snickers, Reese's, Milky Way, Butterfinger, and 3 Musketeers.

WARNING - if you ever use this game at a baby shower and you're the host...NEVER put a baby diaper in the microwave! Unfortunately, I learned this lesson the hard way and had a diaper combust into flames. I guess the materials that diapers are made out of are very flammable. I thought of using a fire extinguisher to put the fire out, but then remembered the mess that our friends Heather and Matt had when they used their fire extinguisher for their kitchen fire. So, I just threw in the sink under water and thankfully the fire was out. So to say the least my kitchen still reeks of smoke.

So the valuable lesson learned is if you use this game melt the candy bars in a bowl and gently scrap them onto the diaper immediately after removing them from the microwave.

Tawnya got a lot of nice gifts - bottle warmer, baby monitors with video screen, mobile, and cute clothes. Overall I think it was a very successful and fun for all Baby Shower.

Who's the Man?...I mean Who's the Woman?

So Corey is out of town for business...SCOTLAND. He has a rough job - he get's to visit interesting countries and get paid for it. Just Kidding Baby! HeHe!

Anyway on to the real reason I am posting - I know this sounds bad but I am really tired of getting HOA warning letters regarding the length of our yard, height of our mulch, etc. I mean come on people I have a two foot patch of grass in the front of my house. Our HOA is a little anal if you can't tell. So to surprise Corey and please the HOA - I mowed the yard, weeded and mulched the flower beds, and decorated the front of the house for fall/Halloween. If my neighbors would have video taped me mowing the lawn I swear they would have won $10,000 on America's Funniest Videos. Today was the first time I have ever mowed the grass with a push mower - so I had fun starting the thing, having it cut off on me multiple times in the middle of mowing, and finally pushing it up the two foot hill we have. I know it's sad I had issues with a two foot hill!

Any HOO...I wish I would have taken a picture before I started so I could have posted before and after pictures. Oh well, here is the finished product! The front of the house looks the best it has since we moved in. Yeah! I am now ready for Autumn...let the leaves begin to fall!

UVA Homecoming - September 16, 2006

The game was not much fun to watch this week. UVA lost to Western Michigan 17-10. Unfortunately, UVA's football team is really going to struggle this year. UVA has tried three quarterbacks thus far...I feel like I am watching the Redskins with a quarterback controversy.

On a positive note, the band is awesome! All in all, we have decided that this year's focus is on tailgating! So if anyone comes to C'ville for a game give us a call to tailgate. Go HOOS!
